WW2 National ARP Animal Guard air raid precaution badge
A scarce original Second World War early period very low issue number '47' 'National Air Raid Precautions Animals Committee' silver plated pin badge, white enamel 'Animal Guard' title scroll, blue cross to the centre, the reverse with maker's details 'Vaughtons Ltd B'Ham' and impressed official exceptionally LOW issue number '47'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel perfect.
Height 31mm.
The National Air Raid Precautions Animals Committee was established to ensure the well-being of domestic and working animal under war conditions, a national register was set up and registered animals were issued with a NARPAC numbered disc attached to their collar as identification.
The Animal Guard were predominantly women who were responsible for the welfare and registration of domestic pets covering a few streets in their local area.
