A scarce original Second World War period Welsh 'Blaenavon Company Ltd chromium plated enamel factory war workers badge', the reverse with maker's details 'Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St Birmingham' and impressed with official issue number '1865'. Good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, enamel with stress mark and damage with poor restoration attempt. Diameter 27mm. During the Second World War the 'Blaenavon Company Ltd, Wales' turned to the manufacturing of aluminium and magnesium alloys for the Ministry of Aircraft Production. 'National Service' was established in 1939 to promote all forms of service for the war effort. Many employers introduced their own National Services badges to denote war service. These served to indicate that the person employed was working in the national interest and as a form of protection against been called a mIlitary service dodger.
