WWI Canadian 10th Infantry Battalion CEF attributed casualty bronzed cap badge
A scarce original First World War period bronzed cap badge attributed to Private Claude Astley Sacker who was born in Croydon England and after emigrating to Canada enlisted into the 10th Battalion CEF March 1916, at Red Deer Alberta, his trade given as a Farmer. His parents lived in Harpenden Hertfordshire. He landed in France around August 1916 and was admitted into hospital suffering concussion and shell shock on the 2nd May 1917 returning to duty in July. On the 17th September 1917 he was Killed in Action North West of Lievin. Accompanying the badge is two local newspaper cuttings reporting his death and old pin box that it was kept in for all these years. Very good condition, badge original fittings replaced by vintage period pin fittings, possibly for wear by his grieving mother.
