Thanks offering to the Hospitals of the Hartlepools 1917 tribute badge

A scarce original Great War period 'Hartlepools Hospitals Bombardment Durham RGA tribute badge'; large ornate gilded brass example bearing a red cross on white enamel ground with 1917 shield to the centre, within 'Thank offering to the Hospitals of the Hartlepools' title surround. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel, some minor surface scratches not affecting the overall appearance.
Height 32mm.

In order to raise funds for the Hartlepools Hospitals who had been hard pushed during the bombardment, the Borough issued what have commonly been called the 'Bombardment Medal'. Several types were produced and they were given to all those people who contributed to a collection made in Hartlepool in 1915.
