Leicester Royal Infirmary Nurses League 1914 silver hospital badge

A scarce original First World War period 'Leicester Royal Infirmary Nurses League badge' in the form of a red, white and blue enamel shield bearing the leagues monogram to the centre; the reverse impressed with Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1914, maker's details 'W.O.L' (W O Lewis) and inscribed to the recipient 'L.Vernon-Forsdick'. Good condition, complete with pin fittings, minor service wear.
Height 39mm.

Miss Lilian Vernon-Forsdick started Nurse training at Leicester Royal Infirmary in 1914 and after qualifying in 1917 volunteered hers services to the British Red Cross on the 2nd April 1917 and was posted to the Redhill War Hospital, her duty being a Nursing Night Sister. She was released from the Red Cross in December 1918, and it appears she moved to the Victoria Military Hospital Guernsey, the address she gave to the British Red Cross.
