Primrose League honorary treasurer political badge
A scarce original 'Primrose League Honorary Treasurer's badge' in the form of a gilt bar bearing silk ribbon from which is hung a gilt and enamel jewel, consisting of a Royal Crown, crossed keys with applied silver initial 'T', below is an yellow enamelled primrose with 'PL' within a garter of dark blue enamel charged with the motto of the League 'Imperium Et Libertas' (Empire and liberty); the reverse impressed with maker's details 'W.O.Lewis Birmm.' 'Rd.316063' a registered, design and patent date of 1898. Very good condition, complete with original ribbon, bar and pin fittings, enamel perfect, gilt remains bright, an excellent example.

In 1883 Lord Randolph Churchill father of Winston Churchill, Sir Henry Drummond Wolff, Sir Alfred Slade and Sir John Gorst formed this Conservative backed league to promote not only the party also National Patriotism and the unity of the British Empire. The motto of the League became Imperium et Libertas", this taken from the famous speech delivered by Benjamin Disraeli the Earl of Beaconsfield in 1879.
