Primrose League 21 years associates badge
A scarce original Primrose League associates gilt and enamel badge' in the form of a red cross with superimposed white enamel circlet bearing the motto 'Imperium Et Libertas' and '21 Years', yellow enamelled primrose with 'PL' emblem on square white ground over blue diamond to centre; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'W.O.Lewis Howard St, Birmm'. Very good clean condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel intact, gilt finish remains bright.
Height 24mm.
In 1883 Lord Randolph Churchill father of Winston Churchill, Sir Henry Drummond Wolff, Sir Alfred Slade and Sir John Gorst formed this Conservative backed league to promote not only the party also National Patriotism and the unity of the British Empire. The motto of the League became Imperium et Libertas", this taken from the famous speech delivered by Benjamin Disraeli the Earl of Beaconsfield in 1879.
