The Honourable Company of Master Mariners 1983 City Guild badge

A scarce original circa 1980's period fine quality silver gilt City of London Guild 'Honourable Company of Master Mariners badge', in the form of an anchor, bearing a disc with an applied seahorse gorged with naval crown on waves of the sea in blue and white enamelling to the centre, the reverse impressed with Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1983 and maker's details 'T.F' (Thomas Fattorini Birmingham.). Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings incorporating safety roller catch in good working order, enamel perfect.
Height 39mm.

From the 1960 edition of 'The Armorial Bearings of the Guilds of London' by Bromley & Child a quote: 'The Master Mariners Company shares with the newer Company of Farmers' and the older 'Company of Plumbers' the distinction of having been granted a badge in addition to a coat of arms.'
