A scarce original circa 1919 to 1921 period 'Operative Society of Masons Quarrymen and Allied Trades union badge'; gilded brass circular example with blue enamel title surround, the centre depicting an embossed armorial crest of the society, the reverse with early maker's details 'Fattorini & Sons Bradford'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no damage to the enamel.

The 'Operative Society of Masons, Quarrymen and Allied Trades of England and Wales was a trade union representing stonemasons and related workers. Founded in 1833 as the 'Friendly Society of Operative Stonemasons of England, Ireland and Wales'.
It changed its name to the 'Operative Society of Masons, Quarrymen and Allied Trades of England and Wales' in 1919 and merged with the 'London Order of Bricklayers and the Manchester Unity of Bricklayers' to form the 'Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers' in 1921.
