South London Hospital for Women nurses badge

A scarce original circa 1912 to 1940 'South London Hospital for Women nurse's badge'; early silver plate and enamel example with two voided circle with monogram 'SLHW' the crest bearing waxing and waning moons, the centre depicting the sun, a cross and 'Lamp of Knowledge' with motto `Et Dato Gaudetis'. Very good condition, complete with original hooked catch, replacement pin fitting, no stress marks or damage to the enamel, right circle slightly distorted.
Height 30mm.

Founded in 1912 as the 'South London Hospital for Women' named was changed circa 1940's to the 'South London Hospital for Women and Children'.
