Royal College of Nursing nurses silver union badge

A scarce original pre-1953 'Royal College of Nursing silver badge', oval surmounted by a King's Crown, 'RCN' monogram on blue enamel ground within title surround 'Royal College of Nursing Founded MCMXVI' (1916), the reverse impressed 'Sterling Silver' with maker's details 'J.R.Gaunt London' 'Reg.Appd For' and official issue number '36017'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings with safety roller catch in good working order, no stress marks or damage to the enamel.

The College of Nursing was founded in 1916. The name was changed to the Royal College of Nursing in 1939. Since 1977 the RCN has also been registered as a trade union.
