The Empress Club 1914 Emergency Voluntary Aid Committee badge
A scarce original First World War period 'Empress Club for ladies badge'; fine quality gilded strap inlaid with white enamel dated 1914 and bearing the Latin motto 'Fortiter Fideliter' (Strongly Faithful), red enamel Maltese cross to voided centre, the reverse impressed in relief 'Empress Club' to which is threaded a black watered silk bow tie. Excellent condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel perfect.
Height 40mm.
The 'Empress Club' Dover Street was founded in 1897. It was used as a War Hospital Supply Depot London West District 4243 during the First World War.
