The Queen Mary's Workshop Brighton was established in 1914 for soldiers badly injured whilst fighting for King and Country, with limbs having been amputated and feelings of despair the workshop brought new hope in providing training in new skills such as boot making, typewriting etc, thus providing new trades for these disabled men and securing their future.
There is a WW1 British Pathe News strip available to watch on the web of the 'Queen Mary's Workshop Brighton' which shows a longshot of this badge being worn by a member of staff.
