Oldham Corporation Tramways cap badge circa 1912 to 1920s
A scarce original circa 1912 to 1920 'Oldham Corporation Tramways cap badge', large brass chromium plated example in the form of the 'Oldham County Arms' bearing Latin motto Sapere Aude' (Dare to be wise) within outer laurel sprays with pre 1920 straight leaf feature to the top. Good condition, complete with original two loops fittings to reverse and split pin retainer, minor service wear to highpoints.
Height 46mm.
The origins of chromium plating appear to be around c1920. Fink and Eldridge developed the method into a commercial process in 1924.
It is possible this badge started life as plain brass and was later chromed.
