A good original circa 1940's 'Auxiliary Fire Service Fire Brigade Union badge'; silver plate shield inlaid with red enamel, ringed 'FBU' within 'AFS below; the reverse with maker's details "Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St. Birmingham". Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel.

The Auxiliary Fire Service was formed in 1938 from unpaid part-time volunteers to supplement the work of the local Fire Brigade units in the time of emergency, it was superseded in 1941 by the National Fire Service, reformed again in 1948 alongside of the Civil Defence Corps and finally disbanded in 1968.
