National Fire Service NFS 2 Middlesborough area uniform badge.

A very scarce original possibly wartime circa 1941 to 1948 large circular black felt cloth uniform breast badge with red embroidered 'NFS 2' for the 'National Fire Service Middlesborough fire force area'. Very good used condition, with evidence of having been removed from uniform.
Diameter Approx 75mm.

The 'National Fire Service' was formed in August 1941 by the amalgamation of the wartime national 'Auxiliary Fire Service' and the local authority fire brigades. It lasted until 1948 when fire services reverted back to local authority control.
