'TSS EURIPIDES' was built in 1914 by Harland and Wolff, Belfast for the Aberdeen and Commonwealth Line. Launched on 29 January 1914, she embarked on her maiden voyage from London to Brisbane. Two days after her arrival she was requisitioned as a troopship carrying her first convoy of Australian troops to the Dardanelles. In 1929 the Euripides was transferred to the White Star Line and in 1932 was acquired by the Shaw Savill and Albion Line and renamed 'MS Akaroa'.
