Band of Hope Union Christian Temperance medal.
A very good condition original circa 1900 period 'Christian Temperance movement medal'; gilded brass medal in the form of a quatrefoil cross inlaid with blue enamel, bearing 'fleur-di-lis tips to the points' and Maltese Cross decoration, the centre depicting a 'Queen Victoria Crown' on red enamel ground within white title circlet 'Band of Hope'; the reverse embossed with foulded anchor within laurel sprays. Complete with original blue silk ribbon rare to find intact and gilt suspension bar with original pin fittings, enamel perfect, gilt finish remains bright, an excellent example.

Band of Hope Union was founded in 1855 at the suggestion of the 'Reverend Jabez Tunnicliff' an advocate for total abstinence from alcohol.
