A rare original early Elizabeth II period 'RAF No 24 Commonwealth Squadron gilt and enamel badge', the centre depicting a 'Blackcock' with Latin motto "In omnia parati" (Prepared for all things / Ready for anything), the reverse with maker's details "H.W.Miller Ltd B'Ham.18". Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, enamel perfect, gilt remains crisp.

'No.24 Squadron RAF' was formed in 1915 and one of it’s first commanders was 'Major Lanoe Hawker Victoria Cross' and operated in France with the BEF. In 1920 its role became a VIP transport Squadron and it continued throughout WW2. Passengers included Sir Winston Churchill. In 1946 remaining a VIP Transport Squadron it was designated a Commonwealth Squadron, with crews from various British Commonwealth countries joining the Squadron. In 1968 it took on the role as a general transport squadron operating the Lockheed Hercules aircraft and in 2013 was made the Air Mobility Operational Conversion Unit (AMOCU).
