WW1 Patriotic Association of the Women of Newfoundland badge

A splendid example of this very scarce original Great War period 'Women’s Patriotic Association badge'; large gilded brass convex oval, blue enamel title surround with 'Caribou Head' to voided centre. Excellent condition, complete with original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel of this very vulnerable convex style badge, gilt finish remains bright.

The 'Women’s Patriotic Association' war workers volunteered their time to support the Allied forces and to boost morale at home in Newfoundland. They made and shipped clothing overseas and volunteered in local hospitals. Their badge, as was the 'Newfoundland Regiment' was formed under the identity of the caribou, a symbol of bravery with its head held high.
