A rare original George VI short lived pattern 'RAF No 242 Operational Conversion Unit' gilt and enamel badge bearing a King's Crown, the centre depicting the Terrestrial Globe encircled by a chain, a Yorkshire Rose securing it at the top with crossed Hunting Horns below and Latin motto scroll "Hic Bene Docti Ubique Volant" (Having been taught well here, they fly everywhere); the reverse with maker's details "H.W.Miller Ltd Branston St B'Ham.18". Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel.

RAF No 242 O.C.U. Royal Air Force Operational Conversion Unit was formed by merging 240 OCU and 241 OCU on 16 April 1951 at Dishforth. They were responsible for training all transport aircrew on Dakotas, Valettas, Devons, Yorks, and Halifaxes.
