Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company oil tankers cap badge
A rare original circa 1920's 'Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company Limited, London shipping oil tanker cap badge'; the Company's gilded brass flag inlaid with white enamel and bearing a blue saltire with red disc to centre, this mounted upon a gold bullion wreath, the reverse with waxed black hessian lining and remains attached to its original oak leaf embroidered silk cap band. Very good clean condition, enamel perfect except for a very minor nick to white enamel left edge, thin patch to the cap band.
Height approx 55mm.
The 'Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Co Ltd' saltire with red disc to centre company flag was still being displayed in the 1929 edition of 'Brown's Flags and Funnels'. Sometime between then and 1938 the flag change to shell centre as illustrated (241) in 'Ships and the Sea' Talbot Booth.
