MV Warwick Castle Union-Castle Shipping Line badge
A scarce original circa 1930's period 'M.V. Warwick Castle souvenir badge', gilded brass example in the form of a wishbone, mounted with a brass and enamel circular disc displaying the 'Union-Castle Line' company flag within a blue enamel title strap. Very good condition, enamel perfect, minimal service wear.
Length 33mm.
'MV Warwick Castle' was a ocean liner of the 'Union-Castle Mail S.S. Co.' built in 1930 by Harland & Wolff. On November 14th 1942 whilst being used as a troopship, she was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-413 off Portugal with the loss of the Captain and 62 men.
