WW1 Princess Mary Christmas 1914 gift fund stationery writing set
An extremely rare original First World War 'Princess Mary 1914 Christmas Gift Fund writing set' complete with writing pad, line quide sheet, 29 envelopes and a long lead pencil. The canvas cover stamped with Princess Mary's Cypher, Christmas Fund 1914 and retains its brass open pattern press stud which needs handling with care. Pencil signature to inside flap "C.Charlish ?" Excellent condition.
It is interesting to note that a Private Charles Charlish was serving with the 2nd Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps, landing in France on the 26th August 1914, he later served with the Royal Engineers, indicating he may have been wounded. He is the only British soldier with this single initial and surname on the medal index cards for the issue of Great War Medals.
