A rare original First World War period full size 'Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service male nurse bronze medal' similar design to the silver medal worn by female nurses, but awarded and worn by qualified male nurses, who usually held the rank of Sergeant. Very good condition, retaining QAIMNS RESERVE silk ribbon and suspension bar with pin fittings.
Medal Height 53mm.
Overall Height approx 96mm.

RAMC Orders Vol 10 June 1908:
Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service (Bronze Badge) it has been decided that except in very special cases the claims of non-commissioned Officers and men to retain the honourable distinction upon passing to the Reserve will not be favourably considered unless they have at least four years service as members of QAIMNS.

Medical History of the War.

The trained personnel for nursing services was still further increased by enrolling in the QAIMNS a nursing section of men of the RAMC who were specially trained by the QAIMNS nursing sisters matrons, and medical Officers, had gone through a period of probation were successful in examinations of certificate in nursing had completed three years training and were in other respects suitable.
