Florence Nightingale medal award by Huguenin Locle
A rare original sparingley awarded 'Florence Nightingale Medal'; silver gilt elliptical example inscribed to the surround "Memoriam Florence Nightingale 1820-1910 AD", the embossed centre depicting "The Lady with the Lamp" during the Crimean war, where she gained the nickname; the reverse inscribed to the recipient "Melle Ethal Ellen Hutchings 12 Mai 1951". Suspended from an enamelled closed laurel wreath with red cross to the centre and original silk ribbon threaded through and bearing Swiss maker's details "Huguenin Locle" "925" (Silver). Excellent condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel perfect, retaining all of its gold plated finish, ribbon a little fragile. Housed in its original green velvet lined fitted leather case with corresponding maker's details to the inside lid.

Instituted in 1912 by the International Committee of the Red Cross and awarded on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birthday to trained nurses, matrons, nursing organisers for distinguished or exceptional service.
