National Federation of the Women's Institutes Shropshire WI badge
A good original early circa 1920's 'Shropshire Women's Institutes badge', gilded brass shield, the title surround inlaid with navy blue enamel, the centre displaying "the loggerheads" three leopards faces' on blue enamel ground, within foliated white enamel "W"; the reverse impressed with early maker's details "Vaughtons Birm". Very good condition, retaining original steel pin fittings, enamel perfect.
Height 26mm.
The Women's Institutes in Great Britain was formed in 1915. It was originally set up to to enliven rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War.
