RAF No 111 Battle of Britain Squadron Royal Air Force badge c1940s
A scarce original King George VI period 'Royal Air Force No 111 Battle of Britain Squadron gilt and enamel badge', depicting a ' saltire cross the centre with three seaxes, superimposed over crossed swords' and Latin motto "Adstantes" (Standing by), the reverse unmarked but bearing all the characteristics of a H.W.Miller Ltd example. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright.
Height 33mm.
RAF No 111 Squadron was one of the top scorers of the war with 269 aircraft claimed to have been shot down. It was disbanded in 1947 and was not reactivated until 1953.
