Associated Shipwrights Society pre-1908 trade union badge
A rare original pre-1908 'Associated Shipwrights Society trade union medal'; an impressive ornate multi-rayed oval star, the centre with applied rope edge copper plaque bearing an embossed scene of a sailing ship under constuction, the enamelled suspension title bar with seated figure of 'Britannia' between a 'Union spray of rose, shamrock and thistle'; the reverse impressed in relief "G.Tutill 83, City Road, London" (George Tutill). Very good condition, complete with original silk ribbon, retaining original pin fittings, (pin now ABSENT), enamel perfect.

Overall height 120mm.
In 1908, the union merged with the 'Ship Constructive Association' and the 'Amalgamated Society of Drillers and Hole Cutters' and renamed itself the 'Ship Constructive and Shipwrights' Association' later changing this to the 'Shipconstructors' and Shipwrights' Association'. At the beginning of 1963, it merged with the United Society of Boilermakers, Shipbuilders and Structural Workers.
