SS Osterley Orient Steam Navigation Co shipping line badge

A scarce circa 1920's period 'S.S. Osterley Shipping Line gilt and enamel brooch', the 'Orient Steam Navigation Company' enamelled blue and white flag mounted to the voided centre of a rope edged blue enamel strap, with title scroll below, in turn mounted on a rounded coiled pin bar, very typical of the period; the reverse with maker's details "Gaunt London". Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, enamel perfect except for a nick to the tip of ribbon scroll, gilt finish remains bright.

'S.S.Osterley' was in service for 'Orient Steam Navigation Company Shipping Line', she started her maiden voyage from London to Australia on 6th Aug.1909 . In the Second World War 1941 she was requisitioned as a troop transport ship. She returned to commercial service after the war and was broken up in Glasgow in 1930.
