Imperial Airways officers gilt cap badge circa 1924-39

A rare original circa 1924-39 'Imperial Airways cap badge'; gilded brass example depicting the 'IA' monogram on large shield within laurel wreath, mounted by a lion on torse; the reverse impressed with maker's details "J.R.Gaunt London". Very good condition, retaining original two loop fittings and split pin, gilt finish with service wear to the front, reverse remains bright.

Imperial Airways was founded in 1924 and was merged into the British Overseas Airways Corporation in 1939, later to become British Airways.
