A scarce original circa 1950's chromium plated seed advertising badge the cleverly designed Spratt's logo in the distinctive formation of a 'pet bird', the reverse with maker's details in relief 'M.& B.Ltd.B'Ham' (Marples & Beasley Birmingham) and 'Pet Bird Owners' Club'. Good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, chromium plated lifted from back and under the tail exposing a copper base.
Height 21mm.

The Scottie dog brand image was invented for Spratt's by the graphic designer 'Max Field Bush' in 1936. The calligram design logo was used for their cat food, bird food and fish supplements.

In order to qualify for a free Spatt's dog badge, pet owners were asked to collect 32 `Trade Mark Symbols' from either Spratt's Bonio, Weetmeet Nos. 1&2. Ovals, Mixed Ovals, Puppy Biscuits and Spratt's Meat. When Spratts was bought by Spillers in 1972, the life span of the loveable dog came to an end.
