11th Battalion Newcastle Home Guard Rifle Club felt cloth badge
A scarce original post 1944 cloth badge possibly worn on a shooting jacket or blazer, in the form of a large purpley blue felt shield, edged in red embroidered silk with inner details in yellow, comprising a pair of crossed rifles "11th Batt." between the barrels "H.G." flanking the cross "Newcastle" at the base of the butts. Very good condition, colour remains bright, no sign of any moth.

Home Guard Units nearing the end of the war, were encouraged to turn themselves into Rifle Clubs to retain an ability to use firearms, the 'Director of Home Guard' noting in November 1944 that "it is in the national interest that such clubs should be formed" or to establish social clubs as regular meeting places.
