WW1 Washington Chemical Company Ltd 1915 on war service badge
A scarce original First World War period official war worker's badge'; gilded brass circular example, the title surround "Washington Chemical Co Ltd, Washington Co Durham" inlaid white enamelling, the centre inscribed "War Materials 1915" on a field of blue; the reverse with maker's details "H.B.Sale B'Ham". Very good condition, retaining original lapel fitting, enamel perfect, gilt remains bright, an excellent example.

i'The Washington Chemical Company Ltd' Washington Station County Durham England was founded in 1844, they were suppliers of magnesia and other chemical products. In 1920 they merged with three other companies 'Newalls Insulation Co Ltd' 'Turner Brothers Asbestos Co' and 'J.W.Roberts Ltd' to form the 'Turner and Newall Ltd'.
