RAF No 3 Battle of Britain Squadron 9 ct gold Royal Air Force badge

A superb quality, scarce 1940's period 'RAF No 3 Battle of Britain Squadron' gold and enamel tiepin; the hand-painted enamel badge depicting a cockatrice, with Latin motto "Tertius primus erit" (The third shall be the first), the reverse impressed "(9ct" (9 carat gold) to both parts. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings incorporating safety catch, no stress marks or damage to the enamel, an excellent example, complete with velvet lined fitted leather case.
