WW1 The Newport National Shell Factory Maesglas Wales munition workers badge
A scarce original First World War period lapel badge, possibly worn by senior management at the 'Newport National Shell Factory'; gilded brass circular badge title circlet around the edge, engraved to the centre with official identification number "105" unique to the wearer. Very good condition, retaining original buttonhole fitting, gilt still remains bright..
Diameter 25mm.
The Newport National Shell Factory Maesglas Wales was established in October 1915, its first output was in June 1916. This factory made 60lbr, 4.5-inch shells and 9.2-inch shell nose bushes. The site made use of the newly constructed Great Western Railway fitting shops.
