A scarce First World War period 'London Borough Volunteer Training Corps' 'Lewisham Defence League lapel badge'; gilded brass circular badge bearing the unofficial coat of arms adopted in 1901, with the Latin motto 'Salus Populi Suprema Lex' (The welfare of the people is the highest law); the reverse impressed with maker's details "Vaughtons Ltd Birm" and official low issue number "165". Very good condition, retaining original early round buttonhole fitting, enamel perfect, gilt remains fresh.
