UCW Post Office District Organiser 1972 hallmarked silver badge
A good quality scarce 'Post Office and Telecommunications' trades union badge in the form of a caduceus with 'UCW' initials inlaid with red enamel, mounted on a circular backing bearing ''District Organiser' title in black; the reverse impressed with Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1972 and maker's details "F&S" (Fattorini & Son). Very good condition, retaining original spiral turned pin fitting, no damage to the enamel, an excellent example.
Diameter 15mm.
Height with pin 46mm.
The 'Union of Communication Workers' was formed in 1981 and merged with the National Communications Union in 1995 to become the Communication Workers' Union. The backing to this badge I would think was originally made for a 'Union of Post Office Workers' caduceus to be mounted on.
