Union & Tariff Reform Womens Association political membership badge
A scarce original early 20th century political membership badge for the 'Union & Tariff Reform Women's Association' organisation; red white and blue enamelled gilded metal example in the form of an eight pointed star with 'Union Flag' to the centre enclosed on all four sides by the titles "Australia" "New Zealand" "South Africa" and "Canada"; to lower point "India"; the star with additional scroll to the top "Womens Association" and below "Union & Tariff Reform"; the reverse with unusual maker's details "Wilks 50, Augusta St. B'Ham" and with "Rd.No.454899" a registered, design and patent date of 1905. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no stress marks or damage to the enamel.

The 'Union & Tariff Reform Women's Association' was a sub-group of the 'Tariff Reform League' which was formed in 1903 to protect Britain against foreign imports, industry from unfair competition and to improve trade with the countries of the British Empire.
