WW1 Earl Roberts Rest Houses for Sailors & Soldiers 1919 tribute badge
A well designed large highly enamelled gilt tribute badge for the 'Earl Roberts Rest Houses' bearing a crossed Union Flag and White Ensign, horseshoe title scrolls and dated '1915' '1919'. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings with no damage to the enamel, an excellent example.
Height 36mm.
The 'Earl Roberts Rest Houses' were for travelling Sailors and Soldiers, they could have a bath a meal and a bed for the night for a very small charge. It was announced in the December 3 1921 edition of The British Journal of Nursing that the Great Northern Central Hospital had received the balance of Earl Roberts Rest House Fund for Sailors and Soldiers and it was to be used for the benefit of ex-Service men and their dependants.
