Royal Navy HMS Hood Battlecruiser book match cover c1940s

A rare original circa 1940's period engine turned pewter plated book match cover with applied silhouette badge of the battlecruiser and naval crown above a title ribbon scroll 'H.M.S. Hood'. The hinged opening lid reveals a vintage 'Bryant & May Craven "A" book matches' with a single match surviving and maker's details to the edge 'Bryant & May's Matches, Made in England. Contents 20' 'Carreras Ltd London'. Very good condition with no dents, plating is with heavy wear and dulling, hinges and catch in perfect working order.

HMS Hood went down in Naval History following her disastrous engagement with the German Battleship Bismarck.
