A scarce Second World War 'WVS Housewives Service Identification' chromium plated badge with red and blue enamel, the reverse impressed with official low issue number "383". Very good condition, original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel.
Height 25mm.
The W.V.S Housewives Service was originated in Barnes in the early 1940's and quickly spread throughout the London Region and later the country, these on-call local women volunteers who had detailed knowledge of the residents of their streets, could be called upon to assist ARP Wardens with the care of the casualties after an Air Raid attack and before the arrival of the first aid services.
